About us
Study association Sticky is a young and very active study association. Sticky celebrates its anniversary on May 18, the date on which the founding party was held in 2006. At that time, Sticky was still an 'association in formation' under A-Eskwadraat, but as of February 1, 2007, it has been independent. Sticky is the association for Computer Science and Information Science and related disciplines and master's programs (a total of 9 programs). The majority of students in these disciplines become members of Sticky, giving it nearly 2,000 members. To organize fantastic activities for these members, Sticky has 30 committees, councils, and working groups.
Members know where to find Sticky for coffee, books, drinks, and activities. The social room plays an important role, being open almost every workday from a quarter to nine until at least five o'clock. The weekly drinks and almost daily activities ensure that Sticky members have ample opportunities to make new friends. The activities are varied and range from movie nights to D&D one-shots, and from dance workshops to whisky tastings.
In addition to the many individual activities, Sticky also has a number of fraternities: smaller, close-knit groups of members united around a shared interest or lifestyle. For instance, there are fraternities focused on culinary enjoyment, socializing, sportsmanship, and much more. For members looking for a smaller circle within the large association, the fraternities offer a great place to build deep friendships.
Sticky is closely involved with education, for example by serving on advisory committees. Together with lecturers, Sticky organizes course support afternoons, subject-specific drinks, and symposia. In addition to education, Sticky is also closely involved with the business community. Lectures and workshops are regularly organized in collaboration with our partners.
Sticky also offers plenty of opportunities to develop yourself outside of your studies. From board experience in one of the many committees to organizing large-scale events such as an introduction week or a study trip: at Sticky, you learn skills that will come in handy in the job market, while simultaneously enjoying your student life.
In short, Sticky is more than just a student association. It is a place where you make friends for life, develop yourself further, and get the most out of your time at university together with nearly 2,000 other members.
Our history
- 1 februari 2007
Establishment
On February 1, 2007, Sticky officially became an independent student association. What began as an “association in the process of being established” under A-Eskwadraat has grown into an association in its own right with its own identity. A small beginning with big ambitions, and the first step in a story that continues to unfold to this day.
2007 - 15 mei 2007
First Dies
Sticky’s first Dies celebration, held in 2007. It was one of the first times the association celebrated its anniversary as an independent student association, and marked the beginning of a tradition that continues to this day.

First Lustrum
On the occasion of its first lustrum, Sticky looked back on its early years. What began as a small, independent association grew steadily during this period, both in membership and in prestige. The ties with the university grew ever stronger, as evidenced, among other things, by an increasing involvement in education and closer collaboration with faculty members and the university. It was a wonderful moment to celebrate what had already been achieved in such a short time, with the confidence that much more was yet to come.

Introduction 2013
Every year, the orientation week helps new members find their way around Sticky and their studies. In 2013, dozens of new faces once again joined the association, ready to get to know their fellow students, the city of Utrecht, and, of course, the fun atmosphere Sticky is known for. From scavenger hunts to social gatherings, the orientation laid the foundation for friendships that would often last for years to come.

First Winter Sports Trip - Les Sybelles
One of the first major trips Sticky organized was to Les Sybelles, one of France’s largest contiguous ski areas. From beginner skiers to seasoned snowboarders, everyone found their place on the slopes. After a day filled with snow and sunshine, après-ski and socializing in the village were, of course, also on the agenda. The trip laid the foundation for a tradition of winter sports trips that continues to this day under the WiSpo Committee.

First Study Trip - Stockholm
In 2014, Sticky organized its first study trip, with Stockholm as the destination. Members had the opportunity to visit companies and institutions in the Swedish capital, thereby placing their studies in an international context. In addition to the academic program, there was also plenty of time to explore the city and enjoy this special experience together. The study trip to Stockholm marked the beginning of a wonderful tradition in which Sticky offers its members the chance to look beyond the classroom.

Second Lustrum - Trip to Wonderland
On the occasion of its second lustrum, Sticky celebrated the association’s tenth anniversary in grand style. The party, themed “Trip to Wonderland,” immersed the club in an explosion of neon colors and lights. It was a magical evening full of surprises, entirely in the spirit of Alice in Wonderland, but with a fluorescent twist. The event showcased how far the club had come in ten years, while also creating an unforgettable celebration.

First Intercontinental Study Trip - Bangkok
In 2019, Sticky took a major step by organizing its first intercontinental study trip, with Bangkok as the destination. Whereas previous study trips, such as the one to Stockholm, were limited to Europe, Sticky now ventured to the other side of the world. Members had the opportunity to visit companies and institutions in Thailand’s bustling capital, placing their studies in an international and culturally rich context. In addition to the academic program, there was plenty of time to explore the city, from temples to street markets. It was a trip that set the bar significantly higher for future study trips.

Koala is being released
In 2020, Martijn Casteel was named an honorary member of Sticky for developing and maintaining Koala. Since then, Sticky has had its own member portal, which means the association is no longer dependent on external systems. This is a great example of how a single dedicated member with technical expertise has left a lasting mark on Sticky.

Goat Yoga During the Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many of Sticky’s activities came to a halt because gatherings were subject to strict rules. Fortunately, the club found a clever workaround: sports activities were still allowed to take place. That’s how goat yoga came about in 2021—an activity that was just creative enough to fit within the rules, but just as fun as the activities the members had been missing so much. Amid the yoga mats and roaming goats, it became clear that even in the toughest times, Sticky found a way to bring its members together.

A Belated Lustrum
The anniversary that Sticky had hoped to celebrate in 2021 had to be postponed due to the pandemic. But what couldn’t happen in 2021 was more than made up for in 2022. After a period during which many activities had been forced to come to a halt, the club seized the opportunity to turn it into an unforgettable celebration. In the end, the postponement turned out not to be a problem, but rather an opportunity to make it just a little bigger than planned.

Complete split from A-Eskwadraat
With its 2022 orientation, Sticky took an important step toward independence. Whereas orientation week had previously been organized jointly with A-Eskwadraat, this year Sticky organized its own orientation entirely on its own for the first time. This marked the definitive end of the close ties that had existed with A-Eskwadraat since Sticky’s founding as an “association in formation.” It was a wonderful moment that showcased just how far Sticky had come since 2007: from a young, dependent association to an independent club that welcomes its own new members in its own unique way.

Study Trip to Tokyo
In 2026, Sticky finally traveled to Tokyo, a destination that had been on the itinerary for much longer. In fact, a study trip to Tokyo had already been organized in 2021, but it could not take place at the time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Five years later, the trip finally took place, and members were finally able to experience what their predecessors had been looking forward to back then. From company visits to exploring the bustling Japanese capital, the trip proved that good plans sometimes require a little patience but eventually come true.

Fourth lustrum - 20 years of Sticky
Sticky’s fourth lustrum was celebrated throughout the year, with highlights spread across several months. From a traditional cantus, where members and alumni raised a glass to twenty years of Sticky, to a gala in a real castle, complete with all the panache befitting such an anniversary. The year concluded with a spectacular closing party, where guest artist Barry Badpak provided an unforgettable grand finale. Sticky thus wrapped up an incredibly awesome anniversary year, with something for everyone and plenty of moments to look back on with pride.
