Working Student — Software Engineering

About VetIntelligence

VetIntelligence is a Dutch scale-up building modern software for veterinary clinics. Our platform consists of Sync, a cloud-based practice management system (PMS), and Sophie, an AI veterinary assistant that communicates with pet owners via WhatsApp — handling questions, triage, appointment booking and medication orders. Clinics across the Netherlands run their daily operations on our products, and we are growing fast.

We are now building our first in-house development team. Until now, development has been done with an external partner; over the coming months we are bringing engineering in-house. That makes this a rare opportunity: you will not be joining a big machine, you will help build it.

The role

As a working student you get real engineering work, not coffee runs. Depending on your interests you contribute to Sync (our .NET 8 / React practice management system) or to Sophie, our AI assistant (Python, FastAPI, LangGraph, RAG with Qdrant on Azure). You work in the same sprints as the rest of the team, with a senior developer as your mentor.

What you will do

  • Build small, well-scoped features and fix bugs in the Sync codebase (.NET/React) or the Sophie AI stack (Python).
  • Help with test automation, QA of releases and reproducing customer-reported issues.
  • Improve internal tooling and documentation — the things that make a young team fast.
  • If AI is your thing: experiment with prompts, RAG quality and agent behaviour for Sophie.

What you bring

  • You are enrolled in a bachelor or master in Computer Science, AI or a related field.
  • You can program — in C#, Python, TypeScript or similar — and can show something you built.
  • You are available 12–24 hours per week and want to learn how production software is really built.
  • Comfortable in English; Dutch is a plus.

What we offer

  • €15–€18 gross per hour, depending on experience and year of study.
  • Hybrid working: our office in Utrecht combined with remote days.
  • Real ownership from day one — a small team, short lines, direct impact on the product and on clinics.
  • Work at the intersection of healthcare, AI and SaaS, with a product that is live and growing.
  • A realistic path to a junior position after your studies.
